Dutch Parliament to consider providing Ukraine with two Patriot systems
The Netherlands will supply Ukraine two Patriot air defense missile launchers and a number of missiles in a joint project with the US and Germany
This is stated in a letter from Kajsa Ollongren, the Dutch Minister of Defense, to the Parliament.
"The Netherlands is participating in a cooperation project with the USA and Germany to supply Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, including ammunition, training and spare parts for their maintenance. The delivery of this weapon system is a unique and complex operation. The cooperation involves the supply by the Netherlands of two launchers and a number of missiles," the letter reads.
The Netherlands will also help train Ukrainians to operate the Patriot system.
"Thus, the Netherlands, together with its allies, is responding to President Zelenskyy's urgent call to provide air defense against ongoing missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities," the letter says.
In addition, 65 marines will train a total of 400 Ukrainian soldiers on the territory of the UK until April.
The Netherlands has a total of three Patriot anti-aircraft systems, with the fourth in reserve. The system can shoot down helicopters, manned and unmanned aerial vehicles as well as ballistic and cruise missiles from an altitude of up to 20 kilometers and at a distance of up to 60 kilometers.
The Patriot system consists of a radar, a fire control center and several launchers.
