"Depriving Russia of its powers in the UN would be a colossal victory, so we must continue working on it" - Ohryzko
The UN General Assembly can make a decision to terminate the powers of the Russian delegation and Ukraine and the West can achieve that.
Ukraine’s former Foreign Minister Volodymyr Ohryzko said this on Espreso TV.
"What did the latest resolution of the UN General Assembly show regarding sham referendums? This could be a turning point in the history of the UN. It brought together a significantly larger number of countries than it was necessary to carry through the General Assembly decisions that could not be passed by the UN Security Council. For Russia and its satellites - this is a clear signal - "A little more and you will have the decisions you fear through the General Assembly", Ogryzko noted.
He emphasized that this is a potentially positive moment for Ukraine.
"We need to raise the question that Russia is illegally a member of the UN and did not acquire this membership in a legal way. Not in accordance with the UN Charter, but by deception. If our country, the United States, and the civilized world worked with the members of the UN, they would raise the question that Russia should be stripped of its powers at the first stage. This is a completely normal story, and it is something that can be a prologue for further actions. This would be a colossal victory that would open the door for further movement - the exclusion of the Russian Federation from the organization itself. There is a good dynamic here, and it should not be lost, we should continue working in this direction. I think that the vast majority of member countries would not like to be in Ukraine's place. This is what should be used to show that either we work together and the organization is alive, or we really need to look for a replacement," the former minister concluded.
