China calls for lifting sanctions in its “peace plan” due to being sanctioned itself – political scientist Kulyk
Vitaliy Kulyk, director of the Center for Civil Society Research, says China believes that sanctions are a weapon of the West against the collective South, in particular China itself
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
The political scientist commented on the sanctions clause in China's "peace plan.”
"Under lifting sanctions, China means the sanctions against itself, because China is under sanctions in terms of human rights in Uyghuristan, in terms of sanctions on human rights and the situation in Hong Kong, in economic investigations of unfair competition, and China is also on sanctions lists for circumventing sanctions in support of North Korea. In other words, China is experiencing firsthand what sanctions mechanisms are and believes that sanctions are a weapon of the West against the collective South, including China," the political scientist explained.
Vitaliy Kulyk added that since sanctions are hitting the Chinese economy, they want to gradually remove this mechanism altogether.
"Not only does China talk in its 12-point peace plan document about lifting sanctions as an instrument of political influence, but they also talked about it in the Global Security Initiative and at the Munich conference, i.e. on many platforms where China has consistently stated over the past five years that sanctions cannot be a continuation of global politics, that they are an unfair instrument of influence on the opponent. Therefore, the topic of sanctions has simply moved from Beijing's official ideological rhetoric to this "peace plan" for Ukraine," Kulyk summarized.
