Budanov: Situation at the front reaches dead end, Ukraine is waiting for new arms
Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry Kyrylo Budanov said that situation on the front line has reached a dead end, and neither Ukraine nor Russia can achieve significant success.
Kyrylo Budanov stated this in an interview with BBC.
Kyrylo Budanov noted that the situation at the front is "not moving", it is "simply frozen".
The Head of Ukrainian intelligence said that Ukrainian Armed Forces cannot defeat Russian troops comprehensively in all directions. Neither can they and added that Ukrainian forces are very much looking forward to new arrivals of weapons, in particular, more advanced ones.
After the liberation of Kherson in November, most of the heaviest fighting continues around Bakhmut city in the Donetsk region.
It seems that in other places Russian troops are on the defensive, but for the Ukrainian side, winter conditions have slowed down ground offensive operations: the front extends to a line of about 1,000 km.
Budanov emphasized that as of December, Russia has "completely reached a dead end" and is suffering significant losses. Also, he believes that Russian leadership has decided to announce another mobilization.
However, according to Budanov, Ukraine still lacks the resources to move forward in many directions.
The Head of Ukrainian intelligence also warned that he does not see the likelihood of an offensive from Belarus. He added: recently a train with Russian soldiers stopped near the Ukrainian-Belarusian border, then returned with everyone on board: "They did it openly during the day, so that everyone saw it, even if (we - ed.) didn't want it."
