Biden will negotiate weapons for Ukraine in the Middle East - NYT
US President Joe Biden will try to find Soviet weapons for Ukraine during his visit to the Middle East
The New York Times wrote about this.
It is known that President Biden has promised to support Ukraine "as long as it takes", but neither he nor anyone else can say how long it will last. At some point, officials admit, the US and European stockpiles of weapons will run out.
The US president and his team are said to be looking for a long-term strategy for arms supplies at a time when the prospect of a negotiated settlement is still distant and the public is beginning to feel war-weary.
According to some estimates, military aid to Ukraine, approved by Congress, will continue until the second quarter of next year. But the question is how long the current supply of arms and ammunition will last without impairing the military readiness of the United States.
American officials called on other countries to provide Ukraine with stocks of Soviet-made weapons, with which Ukrainians are more familiar. The item is on Biden's agenda during his trip to the Middle East next week, when he is scheduled to meet with leaders of Arab states that have been clients of Moscow in the past.
In addition, Joe Biden said that during his trip to the Middle East, he will try to expand the circle of countries that will support the United States in the confrontation with Russia.
Biden will visit Israel, the West Bank of the Jordan River, as well as Saudi Arabia as part of a visit that will take place from July 13 to 16.
