Biden picks Air Force Chief Gen. Charles Brown as next US Chief of Staff after Gen. Milley
US President Joe Biden has officially announced the next Chief of Staff. General Charles Brown will take Mark Milley's place
RBC-Ukraine reported the information, citing Biden's speech.
The US President thanked Milley and his family for their long service to the US.
"As chairman you've led our military through the most complex environment our world has faced in a long, long time. Now we've strengthened our alliances from NATO to the American Pacific," President Biden said.
He also clarified that he expects to continue working with Milley after he ceases to be the US Chief of Staff.
"So today I have the honor of introducing my nominee to be the next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Charles Q. Brown, Jr, " the US president said.
The successor will become the new chairman of the US General Staff only if his candidacy is approved by Congress.
The outlet notes that Mark Milley has served as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff since 2019. His term of office expires in the fall of 2023.
Who is General Charles Brown?
Charles Brown was born in 1962. He is the 22nd Chief of Staff of the United States Air Force. He began his military service as a command pilot, flying more than 3,000 hours and 130 combat hours. The White House has stated that General Brown has been instrumental in providing military assistance to Ukraine and has experience in establishing relations between the US and China.
Previously, he also served as commander of the Pacific Air Forces, commander of the United States Indo-Pacific Command, and executive director of the Pacific combat operations staff.
On July 26, 2018, he was promoted to the rank of US General.
