Biden in Kyiv: signal of steadfastness
The US President's visit to Kyiv is not just a political signal to demonstrate that the free world continues to support Ukraine a year after the start of Russia's large-scale aggression
This is undoubtedly a historic event. Never before has the President of the United States visited a country at war, the entire territory of which could be under attack by enemy aircraft and missiles. Never before have protocol ceremonies been held to the sound of air raid sirens.
So if this is a signal, it is a signal of steadfastness. A signal of the steadfastness of the Ukrainian people, a signal of the steadfastness of the free world, and a signal of the steadfastness of the American president himself. One can only imagine how many obstacles he had to overcome to make such a visit. After all, the American president is neither a monarch nor a dictator, but the leader of a republic. A republic that has its own rules and security criteria for its top officials. You can be sure that these security criteria did not initially even provide for the possibility of such a visit. So Joseph Biden has once again demonstrated that he is a politician with an amazing sense of historical perspective.
To return to the topic of political signals, this visit can also be read as a clear understanding by the president and his staff that Russia cannot win. If there were any doubts, Biden would not have come to Kyiv. That is why his visit is a confirmation of what every Ukrainian believes: Ukraine cannot lose. This is because the whole of Ukrainian society is ready to confront the aggression and because the entire civilized world is on Ukraine's side. By coming to Kyiv, Joseph Biden has once again demonstrated what is at stake in this great struggle between democracies and dictatorships.
