American company offers to sell Ukraine MQ-9 Reaper drones for one dollar
Linden Blue, CEO of the American General Atomics, which produces Reaper drones, has offered the Ukrainian authorities to purchase 2 MQ-9 Reaper combat drones for a symbolic amount of one dollar
The Wall Street Journal reported the information.
In this way, the company intends to help the Ukrainian military repel a new major Russian offensive.
However, the deal will require Kyiv to spend about USD 10 million to deliver the drones and about USD 8 million a year for maintenance.
The proposal would also include a ground control station to operate the UAV almost anywhere.
“General Atomics has been discussing the requirements of the Ukrainian armed forces with their government for many months, and remains committed to supporting them in any way possible,” said C. Mark Brinkley, the spokesman for General Atomics.
The General Atomics spokesman added that the company cannot comment on specific deals, but they are confident that Ukraine needs equipment like the Reaper as soon as possible.
For reference: The MQ-9 Reaper is a strike and reconnaissance drone capable of flying up to 1,900 km at speeds of over 300 km/h. It can climb 15 km and stay in the air for up to 28 hours. The drone can carry high-precision missiles.
Earlier, Ukraine's Ministry of Defense discussed the supply of weapons for the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces with the manufacturer of combat drones Switchblade.
On January 31, Ukrainian reconnaissance men in the Donetsk region received 12 more SKIF and STEN-2 unmanned aerial vehicles from the Army of Drones project.
