Allies have determined type of aircraft Ukraine may get; pilots, personnel and infrastructure are being prepared
Western partners are planning to provide Ukraine with a military multipurpose aircraft - pilots and technicians are already being trained, and the infrastructure at the airports is being prepared
Colonel Yuriy Ihnat, spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force Command, shared the information on the United News national telethon.
"We have been asking for such a weapon as a multipurpose aircraft since the beginning of Russia's invasion. This is understandable, because without aviation, without reliable air cover, it is very difficult to conduct any combat operations at all," said Ihnat.
Colonel Ihnat said that the aviation issue has never been off the agenda. The issue of aircraft supply is constantly raised by the top military leadership of Ukraine, the leadership of the Ministry of Defense. Ukraine’s representatives are constantly discussing this topic in various international circles.
"Our military pilots have traveled to the United States, funds have been allocated for training our pilots... So the aviation issue has never been off the agenda. The type of aircraft that is likely to be provided to Ukraine and the corresponding training periods (for personnel - ed.) have already been determined," said the Air Force spokesman.
Ihnat explained that not only flight crews, but also aviation engineers are training.
"This is an extremely important component that cannot be dispensed with. That's why this process is not as simple as preparing the infrastructure - the Ministry of Infrastructure will also be involved in order to prepare the infrastructure of our military airfields to receive such equipment. Every effort is being made to ensure that our dream of switching to this aircraft is realized as soon as possible," said Colonel Ihnat.
