After ICC’s arrest warrant, it will be harder for Xi Jinping to work with Putin – international expert Semyvolos
Director of the Center for Middle East Studies Ihor Semyvolos believes that after the decision of the International Court of Justice in The Hague to issue an arrest warrant for the Russian president, it will be more difficult for Xi Jinping to contact Putin
He expressed his opinion on the Espreso TV channel.
"It seems to me that Xi Jinping has finally decided to become a world leader and is promoting China as another pole on the geopolitical map of the world. At least this is what Chinese newspapers and media in other countries say, which can be linked in one way or another to China’s support. Such information support for this position of the Chinese leader is quite clear. Therefore, it seems that the Chinese saw a chance to present themselves as best they could. Because all other politicians in the world are not able to talk to Putin, and only Xi Jinping is able to negotiate with him," Semyvolos explained.
The expert believes that Xi Jinping is trying to mediate in Russia's war against Ukraine
"I believe that after the decision of the International Court of Justice in The Hague to issue an arrest warrant for the Russian president, it will be more difficult for Xi Jinping to work with Putin to promote his own ideas. Xi Jinping, like some other politicians such as Erdogan, is trying to mediate the war and bring the two presidents to the negotiating table. And then turn it into a process that will have no end," he added.
