Able to 'see' helicopters, aircraft 8-18 km away: Ukrainian Armed Forces receive Stormer HVM air defense systems from Britain - Defense Express
These anti-aircraft systems are able to 'see' Russian attack aircraft at a distance of up to 18 kilometers.
Defense Express shared the report.
According to the publication, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are already using Stormer HVM short-range anti-aircraft missile systems at the front as an army air defense system. In total, the Ukrainian side received five such air defense systems from Great Britain.
"The main and important feature of the British short-range Stormer HVM air defense system is that this complex directs its missiles to the target in semi-automatic mode, using a laser beam. And since this air defense system does not have its own radar station, the Stormer HVM is essentially 'invisible' to Russian aircraft and helicopters," the article notes.
However, there remains the issue of laser radiation sensors that can be installed on enemy Ka-52s. But the Ukrainian military is also able to solve this problem, judging by the successful examples of the destruction of Russian helicopters with the Stugna ATGM.
Stormer HVM can destroy air targets at an altitude of up to 7 km, and at a range of up to 7 km. But at the same time, the range of detection of the aircraft can be up to 18 km, the range of detection of the helicopter is up to 8 km.
