93% of Ukrainians believe in victory - analyst of Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation, Shapovalov
Serhiy Shapovalov, an analyst at the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation, said that more than 53% of Ukrainians are ready to continue fighting to defeat Russia. But more than 30% of our citizens agreed that negotiations are possible
He spoke about this on the Espreso TV channel.
"Since August 2022, we have been regularly asking the question of whether Ukrainians believe in the victory over Russia. We have a stable indicator for these parameters. In particular, 93% of Ukrainians believe in the victory over Russia. We are surprised that this figure has remained unchanged for over a year," Shapovalov said.
The analyst stressed that the majority of Ukrainians do not support the refusal to join NATO and the occupation of part of the territories by Russia as a condition for ending the war.
"In our surveys of Ukrainians on the results of the war, we decided to delve a little deeper into this issue. In particular, we focused on war fatigue or the willingness of citizens to compromise. Because belief in victory is good, but there is a reality. Therefore, we asked Ukrainians whether they would be ready to end the war in the near future, but at any cost. Another question was about the readiness to continue fighting if necessary to win. More than 30% of our citizens agreed that the war should end in the near future at any cost, and 53% were ready to continue fighting. These are slightly alarming figures. However, it should be noted that when we asked about the conditions for ending the war and mentioned Ukraine's refusal to join NATO and leaving the occupied territories to Russia, even those citizens who supported ending the war in the near future called these conditions unacceptable to them," he added.
On 29 June, the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology reported that 78% of Ukrainians had lost close relatives or friends because of Russian aggression. Among them, on average, each person named 7 names of those who were injured or killed.
