91-year-old Wanda Semenivna Obedkova, who once survived Holocaust and World War II, died in the basement of besieged Mariupol
This was reported by Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum on Twitter.
"At the age of 10, Wanda Obedkova survived Germans, hiding in a basement in Mariupol.
81 years later, she died in basement of the same city as a victim of a terrible war, hiding from the Russians, "- said in a tweet.
In October 1941, German Nazis shot Wanda Semenovna's family on outskirts of Mariupol. Wendy himself managed to escape from killers in one of the basements.
According to Auschwitz-Birkenau office, during the last two weeks of her life, 91-year-old Wanda Semenovna could not even get up from exhaustion. She died on April 4 under Russian shelling in one of Mariupol's basements.
Daughter Larissa, who later escaped besieged city, stayed with her mother until the last moment.
After death of her mother, Larisa and her husband, risking their lives, buried Obedkova under continuous shelling in a public park less than a kilometer from Sea of Azov.
"Every time a bomb fell, whole building shook. My mother said she didn't remember anything like that during Great Patriotic War," she said.
