Ukraine issue could influence US presidential election - head of Ukraine’s Committee of Voters
Oleksiy Koshel, head of Ukraine’s Committee of Voters, believes that US presidential candidates Joseph Biden and Donald Trump will begin to specify their statements and plans in their election campaigns to show some results on the topic of Ukraine and the Russo-Ukrainian war
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"The topic of Ukraine and the war with Russia is becoming one of the key issues in the US election campaign. I'm not saying that it will be more important than the border with Mexico, but it will be one of the key issues. Why is this important to us? This means that the topic of Ukraine will not be used exclusively in the format of election slogans, but will actually be addressed with specifics and actions. We can already see that Trump, for his part, is moving away from general statements about resolving the war in 24 hours and is beginning to be a little more specific, as is his team. Biden will do the same, I think, and will try to aid Ukraine in order to show a concrete result in any form. Biden needs results for the election," said the head of the Committee of Voters.
According to him, this is not bad for Ukraine, because the more actively the topic of supporting Ukraine is used in the elections, the more results it can get.
"In American and European politics, people are responsible for their words, it's not about Trump and Biden, it's about huge teams of Republicans and Democrats, about political traditions, so politicians do not turn away from their words. I am optimistic about the use of the Ukrainian theme in the American elections, because I assume that according to the latest polls, the difference between Trump and Biden is currently within the sociological margin of error. The Ukrainian theme can play a role. Therefore, we hope that, on the one hand, the next peace summit is planned for the day of voting in the United States, and with the approach of the election, this topic will be more relevant, on the other hand, Biden and Trump will want to show some results, perhaps it will be specific statements or plans in the form of finance or certain weapons," summarized Koshel.
