Taiwan reports increased Chinese military activity ahead of U.S. election
On Sunday, November 3, Taiwan's defense ministry announced it had spotted 35 Chinese military aircraft, including fighter jets and bombers, moving south of the island for exercises in the Pacific Ocean
This information was reported by Reuters.
The report noted that this is the second consecutive day that Taiwan has recorded Chinese air activity.
The ministry specified that by 9:00 a.m. (3:00 a.m. Kyiv time), Taiwan had observed 37 Chinese military aircraft, including J-16 fighters, H-6 nuclear-capable bombers, and drones.
Out of these, 35 aircraft flew to Taiwan's southwest, south, and southeast in the western Pacific for long-range exercises. Taiwan’s military stated it had deployed its forces to monitor the situation.
Under U.S. law, Washington is obligated to provide Taiwan with defensive capabilities. Recent arms sales to Taipei, including a $2 billion missile system announced last month, have sparked Beijing's anger.
The previous day, on Saturday, the ministry also reported Chinese "combat readiness patrols" involving warships and aircraft near Taiwan.
- Earlier, the Chinese government warned it would take "countermeasures" to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity following the latest U.S. arms deal with Taiwan.
