Russia's war offers North Korea chance for money, food, technology — East Asia Expert
Natalia Plaksiienko-Butyrska, an East Asia expert, believes that Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine has become a major opportunity for North Korea's government
She shared her opinions with Espreso TV.
“As for North Korea, for example, unfortunately, Russia's aggression against Ukraine has become a great opportunity for their government. I've already mentioned the skills of modern warfare, but it also means that by selling low-quality weapons, albeit in large quantities, North Korea receives money and the necessary products to cover some of its needs. And it hopes for the technology that Russia will provide them with. For satellites, for example, for a nuclear submarine,” she said.
Natalia Plaksiienko-Butyrska believes, citing South Korean intelligence, that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un dreams of building a nuclear submarine that can reach the United States.
“Because again, South Korean intelligence has found signs that North Korea has begun work on a nuclear submarine, and this is a long-standing dream and idea of Kim Jong-un, because he would very much like to have such capabilities, nuclear capabilities in particular, that will reach the shores of the United States of America. So he obviously hopes to get these technologies from Russia, because North Korea has problems with building these boats. There were problems with gaps related to the latest boat that could fill their needs,” the expert believes.
