Former Chief Military Prosecutor of Ukraine (2019-2020), Viktor Chumak, believes it’s unrealistic to expect major decisions from the U.S. on Ukraine before the presidential elections

He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.

“Anyone saying Biden canceled his trip to avoid making decisions on Ukraine is an idiot. Right now, it’s naive to expect any breakthrough decisions regarding us from the U.S. The biggest event in America, the one expected to lead to serious geopolitical shifts, is the election, which is less than a month away. All American politicians are fully focused on it. Especially with the added challenge of a natural disaster — a hurricane that’s flooding an entire state. It’s likely to hit more southern states too,” he said.

Chumak believes President Joe Biden prioritized domestic issues by canceling his trip to the Ramstein meeting.

“For Biden, it’s important to set priorities and show Americans that domestic issues come first. That’s why he’s staying. It’s about making it clear to the American people and politicians that their own problems matter most. We might think we’re the center of the universe, but we’re not, and no one is going to drop everything — especially before an election — for us. We hope these elections might lead to major geopolitical decisions, so I don’t think this Ramstein meeting alone would have been a game-changer,” Chumak said.

  • On October 8, news broke that President Biden postponed his trips to Angola and Germany, where he was to attend the Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting at Ramstein, due to Hurricane Milton.
  • By October 9, the Ramstein meeting, originally set for October 12, was postponed.
