Blinken follows Biden in canceling Ramstein trip; possible delay due to hurricane
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has canceled his trip to Germany for the planned Ramstein meeting, following President Joe Biden's decision to postpone his own trip
This was confirmed by State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller.
Miller explained that due to the forecasted path and intensity of Hurricane Milton, President Biden is postponing his planned visits to Germany and Angola.
Initially, Blinken was set to join the president's delegation in Germany after his visit to Laos, Miller added. However, with Biden's trip now postponed, Blinken will return to Washington after Laos, the spokesperson confirmed.
Later, the Pentagon suggested that the Ramstein meeting might be postponed, according to Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh.
The Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting, originally scheduled for October 12 at the Ramstein Air Base in Germany, might be pushed back due to the hurricane Milton.
Singh indicated the meeting could be rescheduled to align with the NATO defense ministers' gathering set for October 17-18. No final decision has been made yet.
Singh said that they are still working through the details and that they'll inform the public when there’s an update.
