Bundeswehr wiretapping scandal: Russia expects something different…
The Kremlin failed to calculate that a further scandal over this issue would destroy the last taboos and fears of Germans against Russia
The scandal over the wiretapping of German military personnel discussing the strikes on the Crimean bridge by German cruise missiles led to a wide discussion in the German media about the country's security problems and the measures that Germany needs to take to further protect itself from Russian threats.
“And this is not the effect that the Kremlin was counting on when Simonyan published recordings of conversations between the German military.”
Although Chancellor Scholz still objects to the provision of German Taurus missiles to Ukraine, German society itself is no longer too afraid of this prospect. In fact, the published conversation between German officers, in which they discuss in detail the destruction of the Crimean bridge, is proof of this.
Not long ago, it was scary in Germany to even think about using German weapons against Russians. Two years ago, it was fashionable in Germany to say that "never again" after World War II would Russians be killed with German weapons. And now it is gradually becoming fashionable to say that they will.
By publishing the secret conversations of German officers, Russian intelligence services succeeded in disgracing the German "servants." However, they failed to calculate that the subsequent scandal over this would destroy the last taboos and fears of Germans against Russia. And thus, it would bring the delivery of long-range missiles to Ukraine, which are so much needed now, closer.
