Britain to give Ukraine $5.6 mln to investigate Russian war crimes
The UK government has announced £4.5 million (around $5.6 million) in funding to help prosecute Russian military personnel responsible for war crimes during their full-scale invasion of Ukraine
This was confirmed by the British government.
The funding will support the documentation, investigation, and prosecution of war crimes in Ukraine. It will complement the UK’s collaboration with the U.S. and EU through the Atrocity Crimes Advisory Group.
British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, during a visit to Kyiv, said he had “seen first-hand the inspirational bravery of the Ukrainian people” and reaffirmed continued support for Ukraine.
“The atrocities we have witnessed in Ukraine are unspeakable — there can be no lasting peace without accountability, and UK support will help Ukraine as it pursues justice for the victims and survivors of these crimes,” Lammy said.
As of late November, approximately 143,000 war crimes have been documented since Russia’s full-scale invasion began.
- Ukraine has also recently received $1 billion from Japan and the UK through a World Bank program to strengthen its economy and fund priority expenditures.
