Russia engages Rosgvardiya units in front-line combat in Ukraine - UK Intelligence
According to British intelligence, over 30,000 servicemen of the Rosgvardiya (National Guard of Russia) are currently engaged in the war in Ukraine
This information comes from the UK Ministry of Defense.
Intelligence reports suggest that while most Rosgvardiya personnel are likely stationed in rear guard positions, several units are actively involved in front-line combat.
The Rosgvardiya’s main combat unit, the 116th Special Purpose Brigade, likely comprises three regiments equipped with tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, and artillery.
Since early 2024, the Rosgvardiya has been attempting to bolster its front-line forces by integrating Russian irregular formations. In May 2024, the Rosgvardiya absorbed the Vostok battalion from the so-called "Donetsk People's Republic" into its ranks.
An anticipated agreement for Wagner's forces to serve within the 1st Volunteer Corps of the Rosgvardiya very likely broke down in March 2024, British intelligence noted.
- On July 10, the National Resistance Center reported that Russian-installed authorities are deploying Russian Guard security forces to the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine to combat the Ukrainian underground.
