Who is Tucker Carlson? And why his fakes about Ukraine and Zelenskyy are the best gift to Kremlin
An American TV host has become a shock force that is breaking down unity within the United States regarding how and how much to assist Ukraine
For many years, former Fox News host Tucker Carlson hosted his show Tucker Carlson Tonight, where he talked about Biden's drug-addicted son, aliens, USA biolabs, and marginalized Ukraine, which collaborated with the Nazis in the Second World War. In March, this evening for an audience of more than three million Americans was taken off the air. It was canceled with a scandal, as the popular host claimed that Donald Trump lost the 2020 election because the Democratic Party had tampered with Dominion Voting Systems' electronic voting program.
The company did not tolerate this. And it filed a lawsuit against the Republican television channel. The lawyers of owner Rupert Murdoch signed a $787 million settlement for moral damages.
And during the pre-trial investigation, Carlson's internal correspondence with several colleagues was made public, where he spoke insultingly of some Fox News hosts and criticized the network for being the first to announce Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 presidential election in the key state of Arizona. And although the correspondence itself showed that he did not believe that the election results had been rigged, he was fired from the channel.
The severance deal stipulates that Fox News does not comment on the details of its former star's dismissal. However, Tucker Carlson was obliged to stay in the shadows until early 2025. According to the terms of his employment, all his content belonged to the former channel until the end of 2024.
However, it turned out that Tucker Carlson was unemployed for more than two months. And he debuted on Twitter with the old format and tried-and-tested narratives.
His debut show was based on the thesis that Ukraine blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant itself. Because, they say, it was built by Russians. The same Russians control it. And the Russians built the reservoir allegedly to provide water to Crimea, which "has been home to the Russian Black Sea Fleet for the past 240 years." And that is why the Ukrainian government allegedly considered destroying the dam. "A fair-minded person would conclude that the HPP was blown up by the Ukrainian side," he told the social media audience in a calm voice.
There is only one important "but" - this HPP was built in 1950-1955 by the Soviet team of the Soviet enterprise Dniprobud.
This thing was built by the grandfathers of the Ukrainians who load trucks for the flooded residents of Kherson. And it is these grandchildren and great-grandchildren who are dealing with the consequences of the Russians' dam blowing up.
However, Tucker Carlson's opus about a vengeful Ukrainian government that "wants the death of an entire nation, the Russians," had its effect. More than 100 million people have watched this debut on Twitter so far. It was quoted by every Russian propagandist. Since this lie came out before the official statements by Scholz and Biden about Russia's direct responsibility for the disaster, it is no wonder why foreign journalists are still asking: "Are you sure it wasn't you?". Surprisingly, Tucker once started his career as a fact-checker for Policy Review. But he turned into a fake news maker whose statements can be used to write research papers on how to manipulate viewers.
To the delight of Russian propaganda, Tucker Carlson made another big quote on his show. He called Zelenskyy a "sweaty and rat-like comedian" and also called him a "persecutor of Christians." And while the first one is nothing more than a simple insult to the Ukrainian president, the second thesis has long been worth a closer look.
The fact is that the Russians have long put external Christendom at their service. For a quarter of a century, the murderous Putin kissed icons, prayed in churches, and traveled to Athos. The Russian Orthodox Church had an extensive network of influence around the world - and very often seriously rubbed off on conservative circles in the United States. Some of the Republican Party voters to whom Tucker Carlson spins his noodles every night are family people and believers. And for them, Russia has long been seen as a defender of the foundations of Orthodoxy. And Ukraine, which at its core really celebrates Easter, Christmas, and the Intercession with depth, was seen as something in the prism of the ROC and grandmothers with skirts to the heels.
It is worth noting that in 2019, the American press began to seriously raise the question of what is wrong with Tucker Carlson's "defence of Russian Christianity". And whether Russia's values are similar to those professed by an American Catholic, Baptist, or Mormon. Here is a quote from The Atlantic's analysis:
"It's hard to think of a more fantastical nonsense than that Russia is a country of Christian values. In reality, Russia is the country with the highest abortion rate in the world, twice that of the United States. Very few Russians actually go to church. Although the exact numbers are difficult to calculate. After all, any Christian denomination other than the government-controlled Orthodox Church runs the risk of being declared a "cult." A 2012 poll showed that religion plays an important role in the lives of only 15% of Russians. Only 5% read the Bible."
Tucker Carlson and his pacifying sessions for conservative Republican audiences are a worse problem for us than Solovyov and Skabeeva combined. Because the two Russians on the blue screen have already earned themselves the fate of Joseph Goebbels and Julius Streicher. Tucker Carlson, on the other hand, has a voice, an army of fans, and the ability to deftly play on the emotions of the average USA taxpayer. And we are critically dependent on the moods and dollars of this resident of Texas, Alabama, and Arizona. After all, it is sociology that Western governments rely on when they decide whether or not to give Ukrainians billions of dollars or to talk about their firm intentions to take us into NATO.
Tucker Carlson and similar devils with their influence on public opinion were the reason why few in the West believed in Ukraine's viability in January 2022.
There is an interesting fact when, after the first planes with light American weapons, conservative voters of Republican Congressman Tomas Malinowski from New Jersey were hanging up on his office with the question: "Why isn't the USA taking Russia's side?" They were all listening to Tucker Carlson.
Therefore, in the person of Carlson, the Russian authorities and Russian propaganda have received a tomahawk that cuts off common sense. And it sows lies and fakes about Ukraine at the most crucial moment of our battle for life.
Is there any justice here? There is not. From a moral point of view, we cannot judge Tucker Carlson, because not so long ago, only under USA pressure, Medvedchuk's channels were closed, where local Pikhovshek, Diana Panchenko and Max Nazarov broadcast the same things as the American star.
But now the government, the Foreign Ministry, and the spokespeople for the Defence Forces face a crucial task. Shutting up such propagandists the moment the show starts on Twitter. Facts, truth and full openness. And finally, to help the world and conservative Americans understand who really built everything in Ukraine and who is a real Christian.
Tucker Carlson is not a Russian PSYOP or another project on Gazprom's payroll. He is an ultra-conservative and a supporter of various conspiracy theories. He supports the Republican Party and Donald Trump personally. He has never hidden the fact that he is a supporter of isolationism for the United States. At different points in his life and career, he liked Bashar al-Assad, Gaddafi, and Kim Jong Un. He really believes that in Trump-style, you can reverse what Russia is doing in Ukraine in 24 hours.
We'll see-perhaps this will be a new political star to replace Trump. Because in American politics after 53, everything is just beginning.
