This was reported by the press service of the U.S. Treasury.
“Our direct budget support to Ukraine arrives at a critical time, as Russia intensifies its attacks on Ukrainian civilians and critical infrastructure,” U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said. She emphasized the importance of this assistance in helping Ukraine defend itself.
This payment is the final installment of the funds approved by Congress through the Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2024, signed by President Biden in April.
It is noted that the U.S. is also fulfilling its part of a G7 plan to quickly release a $50 billion loan to Ukraine, funded by the proceeds from Russia’s frozen assets. Yellen said that these actions are a way to hold Russia accountable for its war.
- Military expert and editor-in-chief of Defense Express, Oleh Katkov, discussed what kind of assistance the Biden administration can provide to Ukraine before Donald Trump’s inauguration.
