We need to discuss with ECHR right for people and political forces that brought war to Ukraine to be elected – MP Fris
Ukraine should discuss with the European Court of Human Rights initiatives to ban the election of people and parties that led to the war
This was stated by an MP from the Servant of the People party, Ihor Fris, on Espreso TV.
"The wording that is being discussed in society today suggests that political responsibility will somehow be realized. That people will not elect these people again and will remember. Let's not forget that when the elections begin, a big mechanism will be launched to influence the voter's mind and change the paradigm, that people will sometimes make mistakes and bring these people to power again," he said.
Fris added that some draft laws state that if there was a court decision to ban a party and a person was a member of the political force that brought the war to our country, he or she a priori cannot have any political history.
"We need to come to a result with this, but there is a big problem. Europe hasn't had a war for a long time, and it doesn't remember the people who brought the war. We are living through it now. Therefore, the statement of our European colleagues that the ECHR will not evaluate the relevant initiatives and the right of choice should be left – we should be able to argue with this," summarized the MP.
