We are changing approaches to work: SBU chief Vasyl Maliuk names top priorities
The Ukrainian Security Service's (SBU) top priorities are to clean up its ranks, fight collaborators and traitors at all levels, and be proactive
Vasyl Maliuk said this during a speech in the Ukrainian parliament, which decided to appoint him the head of Ukraine's Security Service.
In particular, Maliuk noted that he is aware of the level of threats facing the state during a full-scale war and his own responsibility as head of the special service.
“First and foremost, we are fulfilling the president's instructions and changing our approach to work. We are not just deterring the enemy, but acting proactively. We are building a new and modern model of state security based on the experience of war,” he emphasized.
He also named the purification of the Service, the fight against collaborators, enemy accomplices and traitors of all levels among the SBU's priorities.
“This requires an integrated approach from the special service, when each area of activity is developed equally well and evenly,” Maliuk noted.
He also informed what has been done in these areas over the past six months. In particular, he spoke about the reformatting of counterintelligence and military counterintelligence, the extremely difficult tasks performed by the soldiers of the A Special Operations Center, and the results of the work of investigators and cyber specialists.
“I cannot disclose the details of all serious special operations involving our soldiers today, but they are present in the hottest spots of the war. In less than a year, six of them have been awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine. Four, unfortunately, posthumously... We have more than 500 state awards. Most of them are the Orders of Courage and Bohdan Khmelnytsky. These people perform extremely difficult and important tasks,” the SBU chief emphasized.
