97 clashes reported on Russian-Ukrainian front on Jan.17: tense situation in Pokrovsk sector

Since the beginning of January 17, 97 combat engagements have been recorded on the Russian-Ukrainian front, with the Russian forces being most active in the Pokrovsk direction

The Ukrainian Armed Forces’ General Staff stated this as of 4:00 p.m. on January 17.

Communities in the villages of Tymonovychi, Leonivka, Mkhiv, Dibrova, and Kliusy in the Chernihiv region, as well as Riasne and Tovstodubove in the Sumy region, were affected by enemy fire today.

Frontline situation

Kharkiv direction: Russia attacked Ukrainian positions near Vovchansk, and fighting is currently ongoing.

Kupyansk direction: Russian forces launched four attacks near Holubivka, Stepova Novoselivka, and Kruhliakivka. Two engagements are still ongoing.

Lyman direction: Over the day, the occupying forces carried out 11 attacks on Ukrainian positions near Kopanky, Tverdokhlibove, Makiivka, and Terny. Five engagements are still ongoing.

Siversk direction: The Russian army unsuccessfully attempted an offensive toward Bilohorivka.

Kramatorsk direction: Russia is trying to advance near Chasiv Yar and toward Stupochky and Bila Hora. Defense Forces repelled 8 of 16 attacks, but fighting continues.

Toretsk direction: The invading troops are attempting to breach Ukrainian defenses near Toretsk, Dyliivka, Krymske, and Shcherbynivka. Five attacks are ongoing, while the Defense Forces have already repelled seven Russian assaults.

Pokrovsk direction: The Russian troops attempted 41 times to dislodge Ukrainian defenders from positions near Zelenyi Hai, Vodiane Druhe, Yelyzavetivka, Promin, Lysivka, Shevchenko, Zvyrove, Udachne, Uspenivka, Sribne, Dachne, Ulakliv, and Yantarne. The Defense Forces repelled 27 attacks, while 14 engagements are still ongoing.

Prydniprovskyi direction: The enemy launched one attack on Ukrainian defenders.

In the Kursk region, the Defense Forces repelled six enemy attacks today, and four more engagements are ongoing.

In other directions, no significant changes have occurred, according to the General Staff.

  • Over the past day, 141 combat engagements were recorded on the Russian-Ukrainian front. In the Pokrovsk direction alone, Ukrainian defenders repelled 53 enemy attacks.
