Ukraine reports 141 combat clashes, halts 53 Russian attacks in Pokrovsk direction

Over the past day, January 16, 141 combat clashes occurred on the Russian-Ukrainian front. In the Pokrovsk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 53 attacks

Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff reported as of 8:00 a.m. 

“The Russian aggressors launched three missile strikes and 35 air strikes on the Ukrainian positions and settlements, used two missiles and dropped 60 guided bombs. In addition, they carried out about 5,000 attacks, 116 of which were from multiple launch rocket systems, and used 2,670 kamikaze drones to attack,” the statement said. 

The General Staff also added that over the past day, the missile forces of the Ukrainian Defense Forces hit one area of Russian troops' concentration, two command posts, and two air defense systems. 

Frontline update

In the Kharkiv direction, the occupying Russian forces did not launch any attacks yesterday. 

In the Kupyansk direction, the number of combat clashes reached eight over the last day. Ukrainian defense forces repulsed Russian attacks near Petropavlivka, Holubivka, Zahryzove and Pishchane. 

In the Lyman direction, Ukrainian troops stopped 13 Russian attacks. Russian troops concentrated their main efforts near Kopanky, Novoserhiivka, Hrekivka, Zelenyi Hai, Makiivka, Zelena Dolyna, Torske, Novoplatonivka, Terny and Zarichne. 

In the Siversk direction, Russian troops attacked five times near Bilohorivka, Verkhnokamianske and Ivano-Darivka. 

In the Kramatorsk direction, Ukrainian defenders stopped seven Russian attempts to advance near Pryvillia, Bila Hora, Hryhorivka and Chasiv Yar. 

In the Toretsk direction, Russian troops attempted to advance 14 times near Krymske, Leonidivka, Toretsk and Shcherbynivka. 

In the Pokrovsk direction, Ukrainian troops fought off 53 attacks over the last day. Russian troops are most active near Zelene Pole, Yelyzavetivka, Myroliubivka, Vodiane Druhe, Promin, Lysivka, Novyi Trud, Pokrovsk, Shevchenko, Zvirove, Kotlyne, Uspenivka, Slovianka, Petropavlivka, Andriivka, Ulakly, Kurakhove, Dachne and Yantarne. 

In the Novopavlivka direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are holding back Russian troops. Russia tried to break through Ukrainian defenses 11 times near Kostiantynopil, Velyka Novosilka and Vremivka.

In the Huliaipole direction, the invading Russian army did not conduct any active operations yesterday. 

In the Orikhiv direction, Russian forces unsuccessfully attacked Novodanylivka. 

In the Prydniprovskyi direction, Russian troops made four unsuccessful attempts to seize the Ukrainian positions over the past day. 

The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to conduct operations in the Kursk direction, where Russian troops conducted 20 assaults on the Ukrainian positions, launched nine air strikes, dropped 12 guided bombs, and fired 418 times at the Ukrainian positions and settlements, including eight times from multiple launch rocket systems. 

Along the Belarusian border, no signs of Russian offensive group formations were detected.

On the border with Chernihiv and Sumy regions, the Russian army maintains a military presence, conducts reconnaissance activities and artillery shelling. 

  • Over the past day, the occupying Russian army lost 1,670 soldiers in the war against Ukraine. Ukrainian defenders also destroyed 13 armored vehicles and 12 tanks.
