Ukrainian forces neutralize, capture Russian soldiers behind execution of two POWs
Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces eliminated and captured Russian soldiers who executed Ukrainian prisoners of war from the Territorial Defense Forces
The Special Operations Forces (SOF) Command reported this.
According to the Command, Russian soldiers executed two Ukrainian Territorial Defense soldiers whom they had captured days earlier on one of the fronts. In response, a Ukrainian Special Operations Forces unit planned and executed an operation to eliminate the perpetrators and retrieve the bodies of the fallen soldiers.
During the special operation, SOF operators successfully neutralized part of the Russian group and captured others. Among the captured were marines from Russia's 40th Arctic Brigade.
During interrogation, the Russian soldiers admitted to capturing two Territorial Defense fighters and reporting this to their company commander. The commander, via radio, ordered them to execute the Ukrainian soldiers.
"The Territorial Defense soldiers heard the order and tried to flee but were immediately fired upon by Russian soldiers with the call signs Yary, Lebed, Bum, and Bely," the Ukrainian military reported.
Lebed, Bum, and Bely were eliminated by SOF operators during the special operation, while Yary, along with two other Russian soldiers, was captured. They are currently providing testimony.
The SOF noted that all captured individuals were contract soldiers who had been serving in the Russian army for only a month and a half.
