Wagner PMC cooperates with Burkina Faso, given gold mine for service - President of Ghana
Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo says that the government of the neighboring Republic of Burkina Faso cooperates with Russian mercenaries from the Wagner Group.
The President of Ghana made this statement at a joint press conference with the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the BBC reports.
“Today, Russian mercenaries are on our northern border. Burkina Faso has now entered into an arrangement to go along with Mali in employing the Wagner forces there,” he alleged.
He added that according to his information, a mine in the southern part of Burkina was allocated to them as a payment.
“The Prime Minister of Burkina Faso spent 10 days in Moscow. To have them operating on our northern border is particularly distressing for us in Ghana,” the president continued.
The government of Burkina Faso is yet to comment on this information.
The representative of the French Foreign Ministry Anne-Claire Legendre in response to a journalist's question said “With regard to Wagner, our message is well known, Wagner has distinguished itself in Africa by a policy of predation, a policy of plundering, which harms the sovereignty of states. The Wagner militia has distinguished itself particularly in Mozambique, the Central African Republic, and Mali; this is obviously known to the Burkina Faso’s authorities.”
In the official telegram channel of the Wagner founder Yevgeny Prigozhin a response to the Reuters’ request regarding the statement of the President of Ghana was published:
"Now regarding Wagner. Wagner will decide where to stay and where not. One thing I can say with certainty: "Wagner does not develop mines, does not extract gold and does not engage in other economic projects, so that there is no need to resist sanctions and other financial restrictions.”
It should be noted that Ghana strongly condemned the Russian aggression against Ukraine.
