Ukraine denies Putin's claim of encirclement in Kursk, names Russia's losses
Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi has denied Russian leader Vladimir Putin's claim of an alleged encirclement of Ukrainian forces in the Kursk sector
He made the statement on his Telegram channel.
"The statement made by the head of the aggressor country at the BRICS summit regarding the encirclement of Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region is not true. This is outright disinformation that does not reflect the real situation," Syrskyi said.
He noted that Ukrainian troops continue active operations in the Kursk sector, steadily diminishing Russia's combat potential for the third consecutive month.
According to him, since August 8, Russian forces have suffered 17,819 casualties in this frontline area. Of these, 6,662 were irrecoverable losses, 10,446 were sanitary casualties, and 711 were captured.
In addition, Syrskyi said that over this period in the Kursk region, the Russian army lost:
- 45 tanks;
- 256 armored fighting vehicles;
- 565 vehicles;
- 99 artillery systems;
- 5 MLRS.
Maneuver warfare dominates in Kursk region
"The maneuver warfare continues in the Kursk region. We are using this tactic. Putin, claiming that some Ukrainian units are surrounded in the Kursk region, is disgracing himself. He is only demonstrating that he has no understanding of what an encirclement is in terms of military affairs and military terminology. Because in the Kursk region, as of now, not a single unit of the Ukrainian Defense Forces is in either operational or tactical encirclement. Moreover, I would like to point out that in a maneuver war in the ‘gray zone’, positions can change control every hour or even minute. This depth can be 3.5-4.5 km on different flanks, which means that the positions of both Ukrainian and Russian troops can be constantly changing to this depth," Oleksandr Kovalenko, military and political observer with the Information Resistance group, said on Espreso.
According to him, all this demonstrates that Kursk region remains the most dynamic and unpredictable location for both Ukraine and Russia.
Yesterday, October 24, at the BRICS summit, Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin said that the Russian army had allegedly surrounded about 2,000 Ukrainian soldiers in the Kursk region.
- On Thursday, October 24, Russian leader Vladimir Putin, speaking at the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, said that Ukraine had attacked the Kursk region to influence the U.S. elections.
