US urges accountability for Lukashenko over support for Russia's invasion of Ukraine - US Embassy in Belarus
The US will promote accountability for Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko for supporting Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The US Embassy in Belarus posted the statement of solidarity with Ukraine to mark Ukrainian Independence Day.
"Since February 24, 2022, the Belarusian democratic forces have made clear that the Belarusian people are against Russia's invasion of Ukraine, against the Lukashenka regime's facilitation of that war, and against any attempt to degrade the sovereignty and independence of both countries," the statement reads.
The US Embassy statement said that the Lukashenko regime is solely focused on maintaining power, which undermines Belarus' sovereignty and puts the country's territory, airspace and infrastructure at the service of Russia's war effort.
The embassy added that Belarusian volunteers are fighting together with Ukrainian troops, defending the territory of Ukraine.
"Belarusians have taken steps to disrupt the transport of Russian munitions and personnel through Belarusian territory to Ukraine," the statement said.
The statement emphasized that the US will continue to hold the Lukashenko regime accountable for human rights violations and political persecution of the opposition, as well as for its support of the Russian Federation's war against Ukraine.
