US says at UN that supplying Ukraine with weapons for self-defense does not impede ending war
Deputy US Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Richard Mills, stressed that arms supplies to Ukraine are intended for the self-defense, and it do not obstruct peace efforts
He made this statement on Wednesday during a meeting of the UN Security Council, Ukrinform reports.
"We unequivocally reject the notion that Ukraine's self-defense is an obstacle to ending this war. No one wants peace in Ukraine more than Ukrainians themselves. This is a violation of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, not Russia's," he said.
Mills emphasized that the Security Council, which Russia is convening to discuss "dangerous arms transfers," is being used by Moscow to "divert the attention of the international community from its own armed aggression against a UN member state."
"If Russia wants to talk about dangerous arms transfers in this Council, let it be frank about the hundreds of Iranian drones that Tehran has transferred to Russia in violation of Security Council Resolution 2231," the US representative emphasized.
