US prepares response to Russia's attempt to annex part of Ukraine

The United States will "never recognize" the territory occupied by Russia as "anything other than... a part of Ukraine." Karin Jean-Pierre, White House press secretary, emphasized at a press briefing on September 26.

She emphasized that the "fake referendum" that the leaders of the occupiers are trying to hold in the four occupied regions of Ukraine (Kherson, Zaporizhzhya, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions) to secede from Ukraine and join Russia is "a gross violation of international law."

Karin Jean-Pierre also noted that the US and allies will continue to work together to hold Russia accountable and support Ukraine as long as necessary.

 "We are ready to impose quick and serious economic sanctions on Russia additionally," Karin Jean-Pierre said. "You will hear more from us about this in the coming days."
