Ukrainian parliament to appeal to UN to exclude Russia from organization
The draft resolution, in particular, refers to the recognition of the Russian regime as a terrorist, the illegitimacy of Russia's membership in the UN and its reform
This was announced by the chairman of the Ukrainian parliament Ruslan Stefanchuk.
The speaker noted that the parliament has registered a draft resolution "on the statement of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on the recognition of the Russian regime as a terrorist, the illegitimacy of Russia's membership in the United Nations and its reform, the responsibility of members of Russian political parties supporting aggression".
"Everything is simple here. The Russian Federation considers itself the legal successor of the USSR, although in 1991 the USSR, as a state and subject of international law, ceased to exist. Therefore, Russia cannot have the status of a successor state to the USSR," the note says.
Stefanchuk added that it is absurd that a terrorist state can influence decision-making in the UN, and have a veto right.
"Therefore, Ukraine calls for reforming such an important international organization. This is what we will address to the parliaments and governments of foreign countries. I predict the approval of this resolution by the Ukrainian parliament without lengthy discussions," the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada said.
