Ukrainian military personnel complete training on tanks in Great Britain
Servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine completed training on Challenger 2 tanks in Great Britain
This was reported by The Guardian with reference to the British Ministry of Defence.
Ukrainian crews and tanks will arrive in position in time for the spring counteroffensive, the British MoD says.
The UK Defence Secretary, Ben Wallace said that Ukrainian soldiers will return home better equipped and trained.
“It is truly inspiring to witness the determination of Ukrainian soldiers having completed their training on British Challenger 2 tanks on British soil. We will continue to stand by them and do all we can to support Ukraine for as long as it takes,” he said.
Ukrainian crews received training instructions on how to command, drive and work in coordination on Challenger 2 tanks, as well as how to effectively identify and engage targets.
“It has been a privilege for the combat maneuver center team to deliver this training to our Ukrainian partners. We have all been hugely impressed with the level of competence displayed and have no doubt that our friends will use the Challenger 2 tanks most effectively in the battles to come as they fight to defend their homeland,” said Lt. John Stone, who oversaw the training mission.
It is noted that, in addition to 14 British Challenger tanks, Britain is sending 20 Bulldog armored personnel carriers and 30 AS-90 self-propelled artillery units to Ukraine.
