Ukrainian military developers modify American 40-mm grenades for aviation use
Ukrainian military developers have redesigned American 40-mm grenades for use with drones against invading Russian forces and military equipment
Military Portal shared the news.
Ukrainian military inventors converted the American M430A1 grenades into aviation ammunition designed to be dropped from drones and damage the military equipment of the Russian invaders. Reworked ammunition should free fall from drones and hit the upper hemisphere of the armored vehicle or the engines.
As the publication notes, the military used DJI Mavic 3 drones as a platform for dropping ammunition. It is interesting that the M430A1 ammunition is approved as the standard ammunition for automatic grenade launchers of NATO countries. At the beginning of February, as part of security assistance, the US handed Ukraine 40 mm Mk 19 automatic grenade launchers. With the grenade launchers, 40×53 mm M430A1 HEDP rounds with a universal armor-piercing grenade, which is capable of penetrating 76 mm steel, arrived in Ukraine.
In July, the Ukrainian military showed this modified ammunition being dropped on a Russian T-80 tank.
