Russian opposition politician warns against dangerous concessions in Ukraine-Russia talks

Russian opposition politician Mark Feygin believes that the deployment of NATO troops on Ukrainian territory to control the frontline would prevent a repeat of Russia's aggression, and this should be included as a condition in negotiations with Russia

He shared his opinions on Espreso TV.

"The ultimate goal of Russia is the complete takeover of Ukraine's political system, its power, and eventually the entire country. They are moving towards this gradually, step by step, and they are not afraid that it will take time. The problem with Trump is that he doesn't see this as a danger. He doesn't want Ukraine's sovereignty to be lost. He doesn't want the war to continue, which is obvious. But for various reasons, including his own commitments, he finds himself in a difficult situation. He promised to end the war in 24 hours. At least in 100 days, but to end it. He has become a hostage of his promises. He has to fulfill them at any cost because he gave his word during the election campaign, and he considers himself a man of his word. If he promised to stop the war in Eastern Europe and Ukraine, he would do it by any means. This is very tempting for him - to show that he can solve what others couldn't," Feygin explained.

The politician noted that abandoning the demilitarized zone, which would be patrolled by NATO troops, is very dangerous in the possible negotiations with Russia. Such a move would mean that Russia could launch new aggression against Ukraine at any time.

"But what will be the price for speed and concessions? If concessions are declared, such as abandoning the demilitarized zone with European and NATO contingents inside, it will be a serious concession, even more dangerous than territorial losses or a moratorium on Ukraine's NATO accession. This would mean that the war could resume whenever Moscow wishes. If the elections go 'badly,' and Zelenskyy is re-elected, Moscow will simply resume hostilities. There is no doubt about that," the politician believes.

According to Feygin, only strong economic and military obstacles can stop Putin if he plans to attack Ukraine again in the future.

“There must be real military, political, and economic obstacles to a new invasion. So that it cannot be launched, and so that in the event of an attack, not only Ukrainians but also the British, French, German, and others will become victims,” he added.

  • Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for the Russian dictator, reiterated the narrative about President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's 'illegitimacy' but stated that Russia is ready for negotiations.
  • Keith Kellogg refutes reports that he will unveil a U.S. peace plan for Ukraine at the Munich Security Conference, stating that only Donald Trump will do so.
  • On February 7, Andriy Yermak, the head of the Ukrainian President's Office, spoke with Donald Trump's special representative for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg. They discussed Kellogg's upcoming visit to Ukraine and the situation on the front line.
  • U.S. President Donald Trump is ready to double sanctions against Russia to end the war in Ukraine, says his special representative for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg. This applies especially to the energy sector.
