Ukrainian Air Force successfully shoots down Russian guided bomb over Zaporizhzhia

Yurii Ihnat, head of the communications department of the Ukrainian Air Force Command, stated this in a comment to RBC-Ukraine.  

"This is not the first case of such an aerial weapon being shot down," he noted.  

Ihnat added that guided bombs (KABs) come in different types with varying warheads. The Russians launch them from tactical aircraft without entering the range of Ukrainian air defense—meaning they drop these bombs from a distance. However, the Air Force employs various countermeasures against the tactical aviation using KABs.  

"Countering this threat requires a comprehensive approach, involving both ground-based air defense systems and aviation components to push the carriers of these bombs as far back as possible," the Air Force spokesperson explained.  

However, the Air Force did not disclose how exactly the bomb shot down over Zaporizhzhia was intercepted. It was only noted that in 2024 alone, Russia has used 39,950 guided bombs of various types against Ukraine.
