Avoiding Afghanistan’s fate...
The U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy on Russia and Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, stated on Fox News that Ukraine must not share Afghanistan’s fate
The comparison is harsh.
I have heard narratives comparing Ukraine to Afghanistan from American politicians multiple times (even during Biden’s administration), especially in the context of claims that U.S. aid was embezzled and funds were misused.
The U.S. has essentially admitted that the "Afghanistan project" failed to become a success story.
However, Ukraine could become a success story for the U.S. if Americans not only understand the essence of the conflict but also reject Russia’s imposed narrative of "quick negotiations." In the current situation, quick negotiations only give the aggressor time to regroup, prepare, and strike harder.
I hope I never have to leave my country the way tens of thousands of Afghans did, fleeing the threat of physical reprisals, because "surrendering" Ukraine to Russia would have severe consequences for the United States itself.
