Trump ready to double sanctions on Russia — special envoy Kellogg

Kellogg believes that current sanctions against Russia rank only a three on a ten-point economic pressure scale. He noted that while U.S. sanctions targeting Russia's lucrative energy sector are nominally twice as high, there is still room for further tightening.

“You could really increase the sanctions — especially the latest sanctions (targeting oil production and exports),” Kellogg emphasized.

According to him, last week, Trump gathered advisors and cabinet members - including Vice President J.D. Vance and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent - in the Oval Office to discuss how to leverage all elements of U.S. national power to end the war in Ukraine.

Trump's special representative believes Ukraine must continue military pressure on Russia but criticized former President Biden’s strategy of promising to provide Ukraine aid “as long as it takes, as much as it takes.” 

Russia is prepared for a war of attrition, as history has repeatedly shown, Kellogg added.

"This is a country that was willing to lose - and did lose - 700,000 people in the Battle of Stalingrad in six months, and they didn’t blink an eye," he emphasized.

He stressed that pressure on Russia must be not only military but also economic and diplomatic.
