Ukrainian ambassador to Germany hopes for direct deliveries of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine
Ukraine and Germany are close to reaching an agreement on direct supply of German Leopard 2 tanks to Kyiv, negotiations with the federal government are underway
Oleksiy Makeev, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Germany, voiced his hopes.
According to him, Ukraine has reasons to expect that the decision to supply Leopard 2 from Germany directly to Ukraine will be made. Negotiations on this matter with the federal government are already underway.
"It is time to stop talking about the fact that we do not want to provoke Russia. What else can happen? How many Buchas, Mariupols or Izyums must be? How many places of rape and mass burials?", Makerev said.
According to him, Germany has already "demonstrated leadership" with the supply of the IRIS-T anti-missile defense system.
"And we count on this leadership role in other weapons systems as well. These are main battle tanks and armored vehicles such as Leopard, Marder, Füchse and Dingo", Makeev noted.
Answering the question whether there is also direct supply of Leopard 2 main battle tanks to Ukraine, the ambassador confirmed that negotiations are underway.
Ukraine's goal is to win the war, Makeev emphasized. "Over the past eight years, we have realized that negotiations with Russia do not lead to peace. We do not need mediators, we need allies. The West must act as a team, and we must be able to use everything that is in this team", the ambassador said.
