Ukrainian air defense is not equipped to shoot down Kh-22 missiles
Ukraine's Air Force has refuted the fake news that the tragedy in the Dnipro city is the result of air defense
The Ukrainian Armed Forces' Air Force reported this on the official Telegram channel.
“On January 14, 2023, five Kh-22 cruise missiles were fired over the territory of Ukraine from five Tu-22m3 long-range bombers of the Russian Air Force.
The launches were carried out from the Kursk region and from the waters of the Sea of Azov. One of the Kh-22 missiles was launched from the Kursk region around 15:30.
On January 14, 2023, it hit a high-rise building in the city of Dnipro. The approximate launch location, altitude, and flight speed were detected by radar means. There is no doubt that it was the Kh-22 missile. Ukraine's Armed Forces have no weapons capable of shooting down this type of missile.
Since the beginning of Russia's military aggression, more than 210 missiles of this type have been launched on the territory of Ukraine. Not one was shot down by means of anti-aircraft defense.
The weight of the Kh-22 warhead is about 950 kg. The maximum range is up to 600 km. When used from long distances, the deviation from the target can be hundreds of meters. Only anti-aircraft missile systems, which in the future may be provided to Ukraine by Western partners (we are talking about such systems as Patriot PAC-3 or SAMP-T), are capable of intercepting these air targets.
Please pay attention to the official statements of representatives of the Air Force, the Ministry of Defense, the General Staff, branches of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and check any "loud" messages that are reproduced from other sources. Information is a weapon!” the commander of the Air Force, Lieutenant General Mykola Oleschuk, said in a statement.
Ukraine's Armed Forces urged not to spread fakes that the tragedy in the Dnipro city was the result of the work of the air defense.
