Ukraine's objective should be to win war with least casualties - former Trump's adviser Bolton
John Bolton, former National Security Adviser to the US President Donald Trump, told Espreso what Ukraine should strive for in the war with Russia and why its victory is important
The former United States Ambassador to the United Nations believes that Ukraine must win with minimal additional losses.
“The objective should be to minimize casualties and further damage. You need to link your strategic objective restoration, full sovereignty and territorial integrity with the resources that you have – to achieve those objectives and to do it in a timely fashion. If we had a better plan then we wouldn't go through this constant exercise of the Ukrainian government saying we would like this weapon and that weapon and another one and the White House says maybe yes maybe no. Let's decide what our plan is and then find the resources necessary to fit the plan to achieve the objectives. That would have the effect of winning the war more quickly and reducing the military and civilian casualties for Ukraine, damage that is being done to the infrastructure of the country,” he said.
Ukrainian victory is the American and NATO victory as well, according to the former National Security Adviser to the US President Bolton.
“It's not just a European war, it's really a world war at this stage. The Japanese have provided assistance to Ukraine, something that is unprecedented. We have seen South Korea selling weapons to Poland. They understand what the threat of Russian aggression means; they are very close to it on the Asian side of Russia. The attention of the world really is focused here and to utilize this attention to maximum effect we need to try winning this war and show that Russian aggression has failed. If we show that lesson, it will tell Russians something and tell something to Chinese in Asia and elsewhere in the world,” he concluded.
