Zelenskyy on Ukraine corruption: We must fight it at every level
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasizes that the issue of corruption in Ukraine remains highly sensitive and evokes strong emotions within society and states the fight against corruption is ongoing
He said this in an interview with the British TV channel Channel 4 News.
"I believe the fight against corruption is an extremely sensitive issue in Ukraine. When you are battling for your European way of life, your future, and your independence, there is little room for tolerating even minor corruption problems. That's why everything is highly sensitive, with emotions running high everywhere. People's attitudes toward virtually everything are very emotional," stated Zelenskyy.
He emphasized that corruption mistakes cannot be tolerated, but if they exist, they must be fought against, “even in the small things.”
When asked about whether there are currently corruption mistakes in Ukraine, the president responded, “Of course.”
Similarly, he answered a question about whether Ukraine is fighting these problems.
"We must fight. Even if you hear that there are some small problems, whether in other countries or in your own one, you might think that someone will deal with them. No, you can't," said Zelenskyy, emphasizing that Ukraine is capable of addressing these issues.
- In August 2023, Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that he would put forward a legislative initiative to equate liability for corruption with the punishment for high treason.
