Ukraine is set to receive additional 40 Marder infantry fighting vehicles from Germany
On Monday, September 11, Rheinmetall, the German company, announced that it has been instructed by the German Government to deliver 40 Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine
This announcement was made in a statement on the company's website.
The German order, valued at tens of millions of euros, was initially placed in August 2023.
“Rheinmetall is diligently working on the existing vehicles to ensure that the new batch of Marder vehicles can be delivered as per the contract, commencing in 2023,” the statement reads.
This order will bring the total number of Marder vehicles supplied by Rheinmetall to Ukraine to 80.
The armored personnel carriers provided by the German concern are refurbished Marder 1A3s, which were previously procured by Rheinmetall from Bundeswehr warehouses. As early as spring 2022, Rheinmetall initiated the repair and refurbishment of these armored personnel carriers at its own expense, ensuring their immediate combat readiness.
The work on the Marder infantry fighting vehicles is currently being carried out at Rheinmetall's Unterluss and Kassel facilities, with the capacity to deliver up to ten armored personnel carriers per month.
The company notes that the Marder infantry fighting vehicle, originally developed for the Bundeswehr and still in active service, is one of the most reliable weapons systems of its kind globally. It has undergone multiple modernizations to enhance its combat capabilities.
- On June 7, the German Ministry of Defense ordered 20 Marder infantry fighting vehicles for Ukraine from the Rheinmetall concern. Subsequently, it was announced that an additional order for 20 Marder vehicles was placed by the German government, which Rheinmetall will fulfill.
