“Ukraine has the right to defend itself”: Ben Hodges on attacks on Russian airfields
On the air of the Spotlight Ukraine program, the former commander of the US Army in Europe, General Ben Hodges, shared his vision on whose drones have attacked Russian military airfields and whether these strikes are a turning point in the war.
This is reported on Spotlight Ukraine | Espreso TV Channel.
The retired US Army officer believes that even if Kyiv is behind the attacks on Russian military airfields, it is important not to advertise this and not to reveal the details of all the capabilities that Ukraine has.
“We don't know and maybe we shouldn't know. The Ukrainian General Staff has been very disciplined and professional in protecting information. And I think it's a good thing that they don't advertise or brag about successes like that, if it was them. There is no need to tell Russia what capabilities Ukraine has,” Ben Hodges said.
Attacks on airfields could be a turning point in the war, as they could mean that Ukraine has the ability to destroy military bases in Crimea and Russia without waiting for weapons from partners.
“If these were the long-range capabilities that Ukraine has demonstrated, it means we don't have to wait for ATACMS or other things, and that Ukraine now has the capability to start hitting Russian bases in Crimea, as well as inside Russia,” Ben Hodges said, adding that he completely supports this, “because Ukraine has the right to defend itself and to protect its people from what Russia is doing. And most of these missiles and rockets that kill innocent Ukrainian people are launched from Russia, as well as from Crimea.”
