Zeev Hanin, professor of political science at Bar-Ilan University, says that US support is in line with allied relations, so both Ukraine and Israel will receive maximum assistance

He said this on the Studio West with Antin Borkovskyi program on Espreso TV.

"The US carrier groups in the Mediterranean are a deterrent to Iran, and a deterrent to Israel, among other things. This means that when you don't let us solve the problem on our own, you stand by our side. In all previous years, the US response has been evasive. And today the response is as follows: look, here are two aircraft carrier groups, here is our destroyer shooting down missiles that the Houthis fired on orders from Iran in your direction. Whether they were directed at US military bases in Iraq or southern Israel is not important, in the grand scheme of things. What matters is that a US Navy destroyer shot them down on approach. By the way, another drone was shot down by Saudi air defence," said the Israeli political scientist.

In his opinion, there is a certain factor, and the United States says: solve your problems, we are here for you, this is a local conflict and let's leave it that way, we don't need World War III in full. Because China will immediately begin to pursue its interests in Southeast Asia, and Chinese ships have already arrived in the Persian Gulf.

"In general, the US believes that it is necessary to divide responsibilities for the time being. And this means that the US will provide as many weapons as needed, especially ammunition. And there is no need to worry about Ukrainians, they have their own quota, it will not go anywhere. Now the US Army's rearmament programme and everything in service will go to allies in Eastern Europe. So get on with the tasks that are in our common interest," commented Zeev Khanin.

According to him, there are rumours that US army soldiers have had their leaves cancelled because there is a possibility that they will have to be relocated to the Middle East

"It is clear that the Americans will not fight for Israel, they have never fought on the territory of Israel, and we do not need them to. But there is this very respectful support and demands that can be taken into account, because they are in line with allied relations, in order to adjust our strategic vision. I think this is the maximum and the best that all of us, and I mean you as well, could get in this situation," Khanin concluded.

  • On 22 October, The New York Times reported on the Pentagon's statement that tens of thousands of 155mm artillery shells promised to Ukraine would be sent to Israel.
  • On 24 October, the US commented on reports of 155mm artillery shells promised to Ukraine being delivered to Israel.
