Oil leaks into Pivdennyi Buh River following Russian strike on Mykolaiv
During the Russian army's shelling of Mykolaiv on the night of December 28, 2024, a UAV crash caused damage to an oil tank
Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych announced this.
According to him, the oil got into the Pivdennyi Buh River.
"As a result of the fall of the UAV wreckage on the night of December 28, a tank with oil of an agricultural enterprise was damaged, which leaked into the adjacent territory and got into the Pivdennyi Buh River," he wrote.
"In order to eliminate the consequences, Mykolaiv's material reserve allocated absorbent booms, which our specialists of the 10th platoon of Ukraine's State Emergency Service have locally installed in the areas of water pollution," the mayor added.
According to him, the specialists pumped out 25 tons of oil in 5 days, and the work is still ongoing.
Referring to the data of experts, Sienkevych claims that the incident does not have a significant negative impact on the environment, as the oil is of organic origin. However, he called the incident another crime by Russia, which seeks to destroy everything.
