Steinmeier takes powerful political step by admitting he was wrong - diplomat Ogryzko
Volodymyr Ogryzko, diplomat, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine in 2007-2009 noted that change in the position espoused by Germany's President is inspiring, because people who play serious political roles in the West are capable of self-analysis and changing their policies.
Espreso reports.
The diplomat noted that Putin's threats with nuclear weapons are very serious reason for everyone else to make decisions.
"And in this regard, I stand and applaud the way Steinmeier (president of Germany - ed.) made a choice, overcoming great political and internal obstacles. I have known him since the time when he was Minister of Foreign Affairs and pursued pro-Russian policy. I think now he made powerful political step, he pleaded guilty and said he was wrong and was one of those who carried out a failed and disastrous policy. Besides, Steinmeier did not start looking for someone else to blame", ex-minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine commented.
Volodymyr Ogryzko noted that Steinmeier's program speech, after his return from Ukraine, was inspiring. Because those people who were sincerely or insincerely wrong and who continue to play serious political role in the West today, they are capable of self-analysis and policy change.
"In my opinion, Putin cannot understand this at all, because he also believes that he is pulling someone's strings in Germany, or can rule Italy, or can continue to act through his five-columnist in Budapest. He has a fantastic gap with reality. But we have to live with it and understand: it is we or him, because there is no other option", the diplomat concluded.
