Nataliia Nestor, Deputy Director of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise, stated this in a comment to Ukrinform.

"The missiles and drones that Russia uses for daily attacks on Ukrainian cities and towns contain foreign components manufactured in over 20 countries. These include China, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Taiwan, the United States, Canada, Iran, and others," she said.

According to Nestor, last year the Institute's experts conducted approximately 30,000 studies related to Russian aggression against Ukraine. She noted that almost all types of missiles used by Russia against Ukraine are being analyzed, including Iskander, Kalibr, Kinzhal, Kh-101, Kh-55, Kh-59; attack UAVs such as Shahed-136 and Shahed-121; and reconnaissance drones such as Kartograf, Orlan-10, and Supercam.

"For example, in the Shaheds, we find servos, processors, switches, and generators from the United States, contact tips from Iran, spark plugs and indicators from China, electric fuel pumps from Germany and the United Kingdom, seals from Taiwan, and modules from South Korea. In the Kinzhal missile, there are sensors from Spain, buffers, diodes, transceivers, and converters from the United States, flash memory from Taiwan, filters from Japan, relays from Germany, and converters from Switzerland. This indicates that all missiles and drones, particularly their high-tech components essential for their operation, are produced not in Russia but in other countries. We are talking about components such as navigation systems, control and guidance systems, microcircuits, various chips, sensors, and circuit boards," said Nestor.

The Deputy Director noted that most electronic components are not exclusively intended for weapons but can also be used in everyday items.

“In washing machines, computer technology, network communication, etc. Such goods are imported for one use, and eventually become components of weapons. Missiles of the same type do not have the same set of components in specific systems. They use what they have, what they were able to get to Russia,” she explained.

The expert emphasized that despite the sanctions, chips made by Dutch companies NXP and Nexperia are still being delivered to Russia.

“NXP and Nexperia products were found in Shahed-136, ZALA, Ptero, Eleron-3, Kub, Orlan-10, Takhion, Geranium-2, Kh-101, and Iskander,” Nestor added.

  • On July 8, Russia attacked the toxicology department of the Okhmatdyt Сhildren's hospital in Kyiv with a missile containing an American chip.
